Friends of the Rescue

Scooter

Scooter is an appaloosa, with an unusual tannish/ white color marked with brown spots and blotches, and is a 16 year old gelding. He stands about 15.2 hands, and was actually a lesson and trail horse at another horse rescue. He has a wonderful personality, and was adopted by one of the Rescue's founders.

Katie

Katie is a black mare with white stockings, a white blaze on her face, and has the fullest tail around. She moves with grace and agility at the walk, trot, and canter. Katie was at another horse rescue and had a foot injury which is now completely sound. Katie was a friend of scooters, and she is ridden English placing in some shows. Katie was purchased by one of our Rescue's founders, and is ridden by both her owner and her granddaughter.

Lightning and Amigo

Lightning

Lightning is a 1 1/2 year old mini, cream in color, with the prettiest eyes and eyelashes. He is a bundle of long hair, having to be clipped in the summertime. Lightning lunges at the walk, trot, and canter on command. His best friend and buddy is Amigo the mini donkey. Lightning is very loving and loves to give kisses to everyone! Lightning is one of our barn's mascots, coming to us from Colorado summer of 2007.

Amigo

Amigo is a mini donkey, filled with love, and lots of energy. His best friend is Lightning, the mini horse. One of Amigo's favorite pass times is running and chasing lightning, never seeing to tire. He especially likes taking Lightning's halter off! Amigo has lunged at the walk and trot, but definitely prefers running in the arena or outdoor ring. Amigo is a friend of the Rescue and is not available for adoption.

Storm

Storm is a 2 year old black and white, draft mix mare. She is not related to chinook, but did come from the same elderly gentleman. Storm is a foal from a PMU mare. PMU mares (Pregnant Mares Urine) is used to make premarin; a drug that is used to help women get pregnant. The mares are strictly bred constantly for their urine, and are kept in dark standing stalls and get no exercise. Generally their foals are destroyed, so the mare can be bred again. Storm is a foal that escaped from being put down. Her temperament is good, but at times, can be a little bossy. Storm was also purchased by Janco, husband of Heidi; a rescue founder and owner.

Chinook

Chinook is a 2 1/2 year old mare, black and white paint and draft mix, and currently standing about 15.1 hands tall. Chinook was purchased by an elderly lady, who later passed away. Lacking knowledge and ability to care for Chinook, her husband decided that it was best to sell her. Chinook was sold to Janco, husband of Heidi; a rescue founder and owner.

Garnet

Garnet and her brother Lucky Boy (now deceased), were rescued about a year ago. Garnet is a Welsh Mountain pony, and stands about 8 hands high. She is about 23 years old, and is chestnut in color, with some white markings on her legs and face. When she was younger, Garnet and her brother pulled a carriage for the Biltmore Hotel.

At the time Garnet was rescued in 2007, she had been tied to a tree, along with her brother. She was eating tree bark and dirt, and was malnourished and underweight. Some neighbor's tried to help Garnet and her brother, and put them inside a garage. Unfortunately, the garage had pieces of glass on the floor. When Garnet and her brother were brought to the Rescue, after paying their owner $950.00, they were given a nice large, clean stall with a small attached paddock to go in and out of as they pleased. A healthy diet, with supplements, was fed and Garnet's weight increased. Regular vet and farrier care have also aided in keeping her healthy.

Garnet is used for groups of Girl Scouts, Indian Guides and Princesses, Pony Parties, and other functions. She's used for teaching grooming, pony rides, and will not be up for adoption. Garnet has found a very loving home here at the Rescue.

Squirt

Squirt is an absolutely cute, strong, black mini horse. He has the bushiest mane and forelock, and sometimes it sticks straight up! Squirt was rescued from an elderly lady who was unable to properly care for him, due to her inability to move around without falling. Squirt was brought to the Rescue, in hopes he would be a new friend and companion for Garnet, after she lost her brother Lucky Boy.

Squirt may only be 1/2 the size of Garnet, but he is very strong. He is able to lunge at a walk and trot, and loves to be brushed. One of Squirt's favorite activities is running in the arena with Garnet. Squirt has made a good friend and companion for Garnet. We have hopes that he will be able to help with group activities, with Garnet. Squirt is now a friend of the Rescue and will not be available for adoption.
