Prince

Prince is a handsome 10 year old 1/2 Arabian and 1/2 Appaloosa gelding. His mottled Appaloosa spots come out of his white coat. Prince was a trail horse in the mountains of West Virginia, where rocky paths and trails have put stress on his hooves. He was brought to Ohio for a friend to ride. He was taken to another stable, where he also had compatibility problems. The Rescue was called in to take him.

Prince had been ridden in Virginia by a 6 year old boy and will make a nice 4H or trail horse. Prince is about 15.2 hands, and has a beautiful long whitish mane and tail. If you are interested in possible adoption of Prince, please contact us directly.

Angel

Angel is a beautiful 10 year old Thoroughbred mare, and has done some racing. Angel's previous owner worked her hard at her stable, and then put her back into her stall improperly cooled. Finally, her owner abandoned her, and the stable owner couldn't' continue feeding her for free. She was very underweight, and the Rescue was called.

Angel has lunged well, and is ridden at a walk, trot, and canter. She has beautiful movement, and has worked both English and Western. She is also learning barrel racing. Angel is definitely for a high intermediate to advanced level rider. She loves to work! She has a hard time separating herself from food in her stall, and will challenge you a bit to try to get her from her food. She is no longer underweight, but has put on several hundred pounds and a lot of muscles since being at the rescue. Angel is currently available for adoption.

Eclipse

Eclispse was at a barn in Ashland Ohio, along with 24 other horses that were severely malnourished, underweight, and in deplorable conditions. She was rescued in December 2007. Eclipse is 18 years old; when rescued she was covered with balls of manure over her entire body, and her mane and tail looked as if she had beads in them. Her feet were approximately 10-12 inches long, and curled up like elves feet. Eclipse was standing in a stall, along with another horse, supposedly her 2 1/2 year old baby star. Both left to eat only molded hay and the barn's wood. Her water bucket was hanging outside of the stall, unable for her to drink. It took months and hours upon hours of working mineral oil into her coat, square inch by square inch, to remove all the manure balls.

Eclipse is now a beautiful bay with a white hind sock and white on her forehead. She is 15.3 hands tall. Eclipse has been given supplements to restore her health. She has gained weight, has a beautiful coat, and her feet are looking normal, all because of properly maintained vet and farrier care and healthy feeding.

Eclipse has been bomb-proofed and enjoys being out in the pasture or arena. She hasn't been ridden, as her feet had to be sound first. She would be available for adoption as a pasture buddy at this time, with hopes to be under saddle soon. She is a very sweet mare.

Star

Star was among the 25 horses in Ashland Ohio in December 2007, when she was rescued. Star had severe malnutrition, and her hind feet had grown to 15 inches long, and curled up. Her hind feet were so bad she was actually walking on her ankles and pasterns. She, like Eclipse was covered in manure.

Star is a dark bay, with a white hind foot, and a white star on her forehead. Her coat is now beautiful, healthy, and she has gained weight. With the proper feed and supplements, along with an exercise program on the lungeline, Star has come off of her pasterns and ankles about 2-3 inches. She is able to walk, trot, and canter. When she is loose in the arena she runs just as fast as the other horses. Star has had a bridle, surcingle, and a lightweight English saddle on her when she lunges. Star is in the process of learning long-reining, and because she had to learn to use her front legs and body more to relieve the previous pressure from her hind feet, she might also make a nice pony buggy horse.

Star loves to work, and is very smart, and will be available for adoption after more training. If you are interested in adopting Star in the near future, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea was also in Ashland Ohio with 24 other horses and was rescued in December of 2007. Sweet Pea is 3 1/2 years old; a dark bay with a white blaze and white socks. When she was first rescued she was at a foster barn. She was covered with manure, her weight was on the thin side, her feet were long and curled, and she had a twitch in her head movement.

In the spring of 2008, Sweet Pea came to the Rescue. She was nervous and still not too trusting. It is believed she is another of Eclipse's babies. With proper nutritional supplements, she no longer twitches her head and she is very trusting. With lots of work, brushing, and handling, Sweet Pea has settled into quite a smart moving horse. She knows showmanship and lunges at a walk, trot, and canter. She has worked with a bridle, surcingle and an English saddle. Sweet Pea has had a 13 year old potato sacking over the saddle to get used to the weight on her back

.

Sweet Pea is 13 hands at present, and with continued vitamin and mineral supplements, one would expect she will grow to 13- 14.3 hands. After more training she will be available for adoption. Many of the volunteers, aging from 11 years old to adult age have been helping work with her , with the Rescue's trainer's advice. For more information on future adoption of Sweet Pea, please contact us directly.

Shadow

Shadow was rescued in the summer of 2007 from a farm. When he was probably a year or so old, he injured his left front ankle. It looks like their was a slight fracture to it, but the ankle had no vet care, and large calcium deposits formed around the ankle as it healed. Shadow is now nearly 2 1/2 years old. The Rescue's vet has looked at his ankle, but there isn't anything he can do now to remove these deposit's that would be cost-effective. However, Shadow has no limp or soreness in the ankle, and walks, trots, and canters like a normal horse.

Shadow is almost black (actually a dark bay). He has a very sweet face with a very small white speck on his forehead. Shadow is close to 15.2 or 15.3 hands, and is growing like a weed. His breed is 1/2 Thoroughbred and 1/2 Standardbred. He is very loving and likes to work. On the lungeline he walks, trots, and canters. He has had a bridle with a snaffle bit on, and a surcingle on. A few of the younger volunteers, ages 13 and 14 have done some lunging with him, and he listens quite well. Shadow will probably grow to 16.2 hands, maybe even 17.0 hands. He will be available for adoption soon. If interested in giving Shadow a future loving home, please contact us directly.

Canyon Fuzz

Canyon Fuzz is the Rescue's newest addition. He is 1/2 Paint and 1/2 Quarter Horse. He is a 10 year old gelding and stands about 15 hands high. He is currently in a foster barn where is is getting good care and some training. Canyon Fuzz has a nice personality, and was previously used in 4H for showmanship and halter classes. Currently he is getting trained under saddle, and will be available for adoption soon. If you are interested in adopting Canyon Fuzz and want to give him a home with Lots of Love, please contact us directly.
